Description
Bismuth telluride is a compound of tellurium and bismuth. It is a narrow-gap layered semiconductor with a triangular unit cell. It is mainly found in the rare mineral bismuth telluride. It is made by sealing bismuth and tellurium metals in a quartz tube under vacuum. Density: 7.642 g/mL at 25ºC, Melting Point: 573ºC.
When alloyed with selenium or antimony, it serves as a highly efficient thermoelectric material suitable for portable power generation or cooling.
