(α Type) is insoluble in water and soluble in nitric acid. Arsenic is mainly extracted and recovered from the by-product of copper extraction. Arsenic is contained in the dust discharged from copper, gold and lead smelters. High purity arsenic is prepared by gas phase reduction.
When manufacturing semiconductor electronic devices, arsenic is used as a dopant to synthesize n-shaped semiconductor materials. Gallium arsenide, an optoelectronic compound doped with silicon, is the most common semiconductor in use;
